Makeup

We were thinking of incorporating rhinestones onto the face, for a subtle touch. We take inspiration from the show Euphoria, which uses a lot of unique makeup designs. The makeup designs alone can make a film iconic if executed correctly. While we want to do something different, we can't have it be out of the ordinary, or not fit into the film. Hannah's Guide to Euphoria Makeup – HANNAH'S* GUIDE TO ADULTING

As you can see in the picture the makeup looks in the show can be very extreme, but that's what the viewers pay attention to every episode. If we have noticeable makeup designs we can make the film more iconic and fit into the chick flick genre.

Kelly:

We're thinking of doing pink tones for her makeup. For eyeshadow, we can do a blend of pink in the outer corners and add tiny rinestones for the liner. Kelly's character we're able to play around with the rhinestones and makeup more. The bottom left picture in the image above is a good guideline on to base Kelly's makeup off of. The below image is an idea of the rhinestone design we can do.

Euphoria Beauty: Dollycore, Makeout Lips, and 6 Other Trends to Expect in Season 2

Barbara & Gianna:

Barbara and I's characters go hand In hand with the makeup. We've discussed how both our characters would want a more neutral/natural makeup look. We were thinking of using blush and warm-toned eyeshadow colors. This is nothing too crazy and our makeup would still be noticeable. For my character, I was planning on doing a pink gloss and tiny winged eyeliner.

Mia:

Since Mia's character is more "ALT" were thinking of doing dark makeup. While we don't want to be too extreme, we want to have the makeup match the stereotypical style. We can do a blacked winged liner and black eyeshadow in the outer corners. We can keep her face natural besides her eyes. To accentuate the character we could add colored strips to her hair.

Production Company Name

Every film has a production name. Our group will individually come up with our own idea of a company name and will discuss and pick our name next week. We hope to all agree on one, and if it doesn't work out then maybe we will combine our top two choices.

Barbara went through popular chick flick movies and tried to see if there were any patterns amongst the company names that we could follow.

Here are my examples-

How to lose a guy in 10 days: Paramount Productions

13 going on 30: Columbia Pictures

Bridesmaids: Universal Pictures

From my consensus, the production company name is usually mature (no silly words) and 2 words (the second one specifying what it is)

The name I came up with is "Promiscuous Pictures". I knew I wanted the second word to be pictures and I wanted the first word to also have a P. In my mind promiscuous means mysterious and something everyone wants to know. I think it fits with our chick-flick genre, as it reminds me of the Nelly Furtado song which came out in 2006.

I researched to make sure no other production company had taken the name before us, and the name is very easy to memorize, as it's catchy.

Outfits

Each individual character's costuming is going to be significant and relatable to each character. We have pieces of what to wear in our own closet already. Costuming is important as it is like a lens to the character's life and personality. All of the characters will be wearing high heels as that is consistent amongst the clique and it is a chick flick.

My character is the nerdy girl of the group. While she's smart, she is also a part of the popular "girly" group. So her outfit needs to be stylish but also have some of the stereotypical nerdy girl aspects that every movie incorporates. A couple weeks back I wore braids to school while we were making the cast list and my group members thought that was the perfect reason to make me the "nerdy" one. So for my role, I'm going to wear 2 braids and wear my blue light glasses.  For my outfit, I was discussing with barbara how I should wear a plaid skirt.  The skirt is very fashionable and the plaid aspect incorporates the "nerdy" girl persona. For my top I'm going to wear a t-shirt tucked into my skirt with a cardigan over it. We all agreed as a group that we'd all wear heels. My heels are a pastel green color which will match my cardigan.

Barbara's character is the "responsible driver". She doesn't really have a stereotypical outfit like the rest of us. I would barbaras character in the same category as the "mom friend". It's kind of difficult to dress that up as 'girly' but we can definitely just tone it down and incorporate the basics. Barbara found a daisy printed skirt which gives off mom vibes. Since shes also the driver she will need to wear sunglasses and style her hair down, nothing crazy.

Kelly is going to wear something bright and preppy since she’s the main cool girl. A skirt would also fit her character and the color pink.  She will definitely be wearing pink tones for makeup to show how feminine she is amongst the rest of the clique.

Mia is more on the 'edgier', 'alternative' side of the spectrum. Since she's still apart of the "cool kid" clique, we will need to incorporate the same aspects the rest of us are doing. For example, she will still wear the skirt, heels, and wear makeup. It is important to dress her in dark clothes so it will be understood that she isn't attracted to bright/light colors. Our idea is for her to wear a graphic band tee (metallic, which is an edgy rock band), and a black skirt.

Typography

Typography can create the first impression of a movie. Typographical sequences are a good way to express creativity through the cinema. It creates a mood without even watching the film. If you presented the same title in two different fonts and colors and were told to pick the horror film it'd be relatively easy. Therefore, for our film, the font color would have to be bright and stereotypical. Pink would most likely be the best cheesy option.
Barbara is gonna make a document of all of us and add a bunch of fonts. We're then going to go through them together.

In our discussion, we made the point that the second one is hard to read. I said either the first or the third. Barbara followed by saying she liked that 3rd. I made the point that it'd be cool if the third one was typed out during the beginning of the movie. Kelly and Mia like the first one. We need to come to an agreement with which one or we can ask someone else for it to be a tie-breaker. We went to our teacher for the tiebreaker and she chose the first one. I think it definitely fits with our genre and film, so I'm happy with the results.

Location Scouting

For location scouting, we were pretty much envisioning the spots we wanted to film while we were writing the script. The movie starts off in a girl's bedroom. We needed to figure out which one of us had a big enough room to film in. Barbara has two cats that will run out of the house, kelly also has 3 cats, my room is too small and mia’s is perfect. We would use mia’s house to film the establishing shot, bedroom, and kitchen scene. Next, we needed to figure out who’s the car we were taking. We plan on using barbara’s family car to film with. Next, we were just going to go to the school parking lot and use that as a filming location for the girl's school. Next, we’ll get back in barbara’s car and drive to the Coral Square mall. There we’ll take shots of Ramblewood Drive. Coral square is generally not usually that busy and will be easy to get good shots. We can go to Macy’s because their dressing room is big enough to film in and it’s not that busy. We will then walk around the food court where our love interest will be introduced.

location:

-mall: coral square

-house/room: mia

-school parking lot: our school

-car: barbaras family

-road: Ramblewood

-stores: Macy’s

-walk: food court

Music

So originally we were gonna use boring ole' royalty-free music. While it is the easiest, it would be hard to find the music that best fits our chick flick film. The art of using music in the film is to choose music that underscores emotion without telegraphing it. The music sets the persona the characters are feeling. It guides the characters in feeling what the characters are feeling. If a character is distraught and crying, there wouldn't be an upbeat song in the background. That would confuse readers as it would misguide the meaning of the scene. There is no doubt that without composer John Williams, pivotal moments within Star Wars wouldn't be the same impact on the audience.

As we were thinking about what songs to choose Kelly had an epiphany of using her sister's song. We thought this was the best option as her sister's songs are all upbeat and match our film's genre. Kelly's sister, Brooke, even has a song named "dream boy" this resonates with the love interest plot. Although, if we're going to use Brookes songs we do need to get permission. This shouldn't be hard as we have direct contact with  Brooke. Kelly texts her manager to get permission to use the song and we are waiting for her response. Her manager just messaged back saying yes!

Lighting

Lighting is a crucial component of a film as it must align with the genre of the film.

There is an obvious difference between high key and low key lighting. These are studio lighting techniques that create moods for the audience.

Lighting is fundamental to film because it creates a visual mood, atmosphere, and sense of meaning for the audience. Every step of the cinematic process affects the lighting setup, and vice-versa.
- Lighting tells the audience where to look. The lighting setup guides the eye to a specific actor, prop, or part of a scene.
- Lighting reflects the psychology of characters. The amount, size, color, and harshness of light surrounding a character can be adjusted to match their emotions.
- Lighting defines and supports the genre of the film. Lighting is the tool that conveys mood most clearly.
Lighting 101: A Quick Guide for Lighting Film

High key lighting refers to less contrast between dark tones and brighter areas. This includes brightly lit subjects, soft shadows. Fill light to increase the amount of ambient light to reduce contrast.

Low key lighting is a great contrast between dark and light areas with a majority of the scene in shadow. This results in darker shadows, few amounts of whites, and mid-tones. Creates a dramatic feeling, and draws the audience's eye towards part of the composition. Mysterious moods can be observed from this.

It is important that our film will need to use high key lighting for our filming process. Chick flicks are known to be bright and colorful. Therefore, high-key lighting is a suitable option.

Explainer: film lighting

We are going to need to find large light sources to successfully execute the high-key lighting to be portrayed correctly. That is a lighting element we are going to need to figure out soon, in time for our filming days.

To determine the time in which to film, we should do it during the early morning. We can use the sun for natural light to brighten the mood. The only issue with this is the inconsistency with the natural light. Clouds and other independent variables can affect this. We need to be careful with where we film and in what lighting

Audition Day - Cast List

Today we held our audition for Kelly's love interest (Hot Guy). We collective thought of people to cast and made of alist of all the names. We then narrowed down the realistic options and went to pull them out of class. When we pulled the auditioners out of class they were very confused as to what they were auditioning for. I explained to them the plot and their scene by showing our script. We all sat at a table to conduct the interview. We told the males to look at the camera as if it was the love interest and lock eyes with the camera and smile. We auditioned  5 guys and we had one show up to the door begging to be put in.
